Lake Garda is a wedding destination Mekka for brides from UK. It is hard to imagine better place for a honeymoon – picturesque villages and towns, castles, mountains, yachts, great weather – and all of it at affordable price, specially comparing to UK. Lake Garda offers rich choice of adorable small towns (former fishing villages) as a place for a wedding. Some of these towns have castles, like Malcesine and Sirmione, and most of wedding ceremonies are being held in those castolettos. This makes Lake Garda a wonderful backdrop for wedding photographs.

While planning your wedding you can choose any of these wonderful towns: Sirmione, Limone, Riva del Garda, Brenzone, Torri del Benaco, Garda, Bardolino, Lazise, Peschiera del Garda, Desenzano, Salò. My personal favorites are Malcesine, Limone and Sirmione for their castles and beautiful landscape.

Malcesine

After our move from Los Angeles to Munich, Germany we really needed very relaxing vacation. I wanted to fish somewhere on the lake and Denis wanted to do something active like bike ride or walk allot. Denis found Lake Garda and since we really wanted to go to Italy we thought after Venice it would be perfect to relax in one of the small villages surrounding Lake Garda. We chose Malcesine by chance, it was one place that still had a hotel available. Hotel “Ariston” was adorable. Charming little place with charming little rooms and balconies with great view of the mountains. A terrace downstairs overlooking the small garden with many flowers and tropical plants.

We went walking in the village again and again, we loved narrow charming streets and adorable old buildings. Countless restaurants with fresh fish from

the lake, homemade pasta and infinite pizzas. Small shops where you can taste and buy local wine, cheese, olives and spices. Gelaterias on every corner. Everybody ride bikes, just few cars on the streets. Joy and some special lightness in the air. Aroma of Love!

Malcesine’s castle on the top of the hill makes it perfect wedding destination with the great ceremony venue – few hundreds years old castle. It really adds charm and exotic background to wedding photographs.

Limone

Limone is located just across the lake Garda from Malcesine – 20 minutes by boat trip. It has quite a Mediterranean feel, like fishing village on a sea shore. Rich Limone’s garden with lemon trees is quite a treat for everybody, though the walk is not easy due to going up and down all the time. Limone has a nice promenade along the lake shore with many palm trees and restaurants offering delicious ice cream.

The lake is so gorgeous! Water is crystal clear and blue, the sky is very vivid blue and few clouds create 3D effect.

Sirmione

Sirmione is located on a peninsula and has a wonderful old castle with walls, ditch filled with a water in which you can see huge carps swimming just under the surface. The town itself is a bit too crowded to my taste, since it is basically a starting point for all boat trips due to it’s convenient location. Nevertheless town is very pretty, it has a nice quite garden where you can hide from turist’s hordes and even better : thermal bath spa where you can relax after your wedding.

Every other village on Lake Garda is still unique, and quite different from others. I would recommend everybody to spend a day on boat trips to visit the villages so you can make a choice that fits your taste and dreams about your wedding. The choice is yours: Riva del Garda, Nago-Torbole, Brenzone, Torri del Benaco, Garda, Bardolino, Lazise, Peschiera del Garda, Desenzano, Salò all can make your wedding photographs shine!

But I love it!!!

Among other beautiful European cities it shines like a diamond with it’s exquisite architecture and magical lights at night. Paris is a place where I would have my own wedding, where I would find infinite number of places viagra photograph romantic shots.

If you have your wedding in Paris, feel free to contact me, I will be thrilled to photograph your wedding. I love to travel and this is a short flight or train ride from Munich, travel expenses will be minimal.

We took these photographs during our first visit in 2005.

The City Of Lights shows all it’s magic at night when all bridges, historic buildings are lit up, and Ile St Louis with the flying buttresses of Notre Dame looks completely different, like from the other world.
The same wonder happens Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Place Vendome, Place de la Concorde, Hotel De Ville, etc.

Only your imagination can limit you in in variety of locations for ceremony and reception venues. I would strong suggest to visit Paris before you start planning your wedding – you may change your original plans and have wedding in Paris!

When it comes to romance, France is always the 1st choice, since it has the most fabulous and romantic wedding venues in the world.

Venice! Perhaps the unreachable dream of many people. Think again! I have never seeing this many tourists in my life.

Venice is the most fascinating city in the world! Completely surrounded by water I can’t not believe it lasted this long. Unique architecture, unique means of transportation.

We arrived in our hotel “Marco Polo” which is about 15 minutes outside of Venice, on the way from Marco Polo International Airport. Reviews said that hotel is very clean and comfortable, and conveniently located. We got nice room on the second floor, with the huge deck looking in to the back yard. This deck was shared with just 1 more room next to us. The deck was large enough to host a party. However there was no deck furniture.

We asked at the reception how come they have no deck furniture, just couple of lounges and perhaps little table with chairs would be so nice. They said that they tried to put furniture on the deck before but people were complaining that there were other people in front of their room . And this is with just 2 rooms sharing this deck? I was surprised to say the least. In any case, opening windows proved to be absolutely impossible because hotel is located on the street which is the only street leading in to town and the level of noise is way too high. Trucks caring building supplies in to Venice and motorcycles dominated the road. Breakfast was included in the price and was terrible. Very limited choice and poor quality. The bedding and bathroom was pretty clean but the size of the shower was so small that when I wanted to wash my feet I would hit my head on the wall.

Oh well, after all this is not hotel review blog, Just that I could not help mentioning to stay away from hotel “Marco Polo”

We took the bus, which was always late, and 1o minutes later arrived in Venice.

I was really hungry so we stopped at some restaurant near the water for lunch. Food was bad……Pizza was just crust with hardly anything on it. I could not see the cheese or any toppings. Later we realized that pizza is not our American pizza anywhere in Italy. We wanted to get in to the center of Venice and were advised to take water taxi. Water taxi turned out to be 50 euros for 5 minute ride.

Never the less we were in St Marcos square. Of course we all saw St Markos square millions of times in millions of movies. But nothing prepared me for what I saw. Thousands of tourists. There was no places to step and I felt like there was no air to breath. It felt like millions of bees were buzzing over the piazza. It was overwhelming.

We fed the pigeons, listened to music that was playing in the restaurants, walked around, stopped in front of few small shops and were happy to be on our way in to the city.

Of course Venice is beautiful in it’s own way. The intricate streets with it’s little bridges and canals.

We decided to take a gondola and of course the price was 50 euros for a ride. There was no opera singing and it was no guided tour.

I really wanted to say that gondola ride in Vegas was nothing comparing to the real one. But I can’t. At least in Vegas we were serenaded by a gondolier.

I can’t quite understand weather it takes very skilled architects to keep building looking old and run down or they are really in very poor shape .

Would seem to me that city of Venice makes enought money from all the tourists to take care of this unique place. I was very surprised that there was no rest places, no benches in the city. If we wanted to rest our legs the choice was the filthy steps or the bridge or a chair in the restaurant where you had to buy food or drink and spend more and more money. It would be interesting to hear from the brides who spent their wedding and honeymoon in Venice about their experience and impressions.

Before we explored Venice I saw it a very bright, carnival town. Now I see Venice in black and white. And the only bright memory I have of Venice are numerous carnival masks that are being sold on the streets.

3 days in Venice was way too much exploring for me. I am glad we gone to Venice but I can not say I would like to come back any time soon.

We picked amazing day to visit Leeds Castle, the prettiest castle in Great Britain. Denis read so much good things about it that we decided, if we have to see one castle in England, it will be Leeds Castle. Weather was gorgeous, warm and sunny and bright. I was already tired of all the sight seeing of London and desparately wanted to get away to the country and relax on the lush green grass of some park. Denis promised relaxation and picninc and I gave in. We arrived to Leeds Castle to a huge surprise, food fair. Local farmers and food companies were displaying their creations right there in the huge park in front of the castle. People were sitting on the grass, relaxing and sampling all the foods offered. I was in heaven!!!!!!!!!!!! Some samples were free of charge and some foods you had to buy, and we set out to taste everything. There were exotic olives made 30-40 different ways. Middle eastern sweets, pheasant pasties, lamb burgers…. and so much more….I could not resist real BBQed lamb burger. It was so goooooood!!!!!!!!!!!

After we sampled all we could stuff in to our bellies we decided to relax. I did not even feel like taking a tour of the castle, all though I really wanted to see the aviary. Lady who owned the Leeds Castle had been collecting exotic birds from all over the world and current owners were up keeping all the aviaries.

Leeds Castle is hosting weddings and of course for me it’s very interesting to see the sites that would be suitable for wedding photography. Can you picture newlyweds in this photograph?

Or perhaps instead of me there would be a beautiful bride in this one?

One can dream? There are so many beautiful places in front and on the sides of the castle.

I love this photograph

Simply gorgeous! Imagine this as a backdrop for your wedding photographs!

We took a tour of the inside of the castle, saw some original furniture, paintings and rugs. It was interesting, but I wanted to see the beautiful gardens, to scan for more wedding picture sites. Like the view from the back of the castle across the lake with graceful black swans.

Or this photograph on the steps of the garden.

I see a beautiful bride in a gorgeous white dress, gracefully draping down the stairs with some wild flowers in her hair and hand. Breathtaking! I guess my imagination is taking over. But why not? It is a reality and you can get the most beautiful wedding photographs there. I bet hundreds of couples getting married in Leeds Castle and perhaps on a sunny and warm day some September I’ll be taking pictures of bride and groom on these very steps.

We arrived in London in the afternoon. The weather was really nice and Denis decided that it would be good to take a train to the center and then walk few blocks to the hotel. I did not mind too much cause fresh air and little exercise is always good after 11 hours on the plane. I just did not realize how tiring it would be after almost 24 hours of no or very little sleep.

We got on to the train, 20 minutes later we exited Victoria station. We were swapped by masses of pedestrians running back and forth on the street as well as in the station. I was overwhelmed. Where in LA you can see that many people? Venice beach? Rose parade? Gay pride on Santa Monica blvd? Perhaps….But do we ever actually see it? no…just hear about it on the news , at least that is what I do. I try to avoid crowded places and traffic.

Everybody in London had umbrellas even though there was no rain. We dragged our luggage on to the street, cleared the crowd and started on our way to the hotel. OMG! It was the longest 4 blocks in my life! Have you tried to roll your Samsonite on the cobble stone streets? Big mistake! I thought we’ll never get there.Seemed like walked for hours. All I wanted was to hit the pillow and close my eyes. But we kept on walking until we got to this lovely street with white, all alike buildings and each had a hotel sign on it.

We realized that just few more steps and we’ll be in our hotel. We finally saw the sign “Luna Hotel” and I was ready to kiss the marble stairs under my feet. Hotel prices in London are perhaps the most expensive in Europe. Since we spend so little time in the hotel, just nights, we prefer to stay in a small, family owned boutique hotels. No fuss, just nice clean room, firm bed and bath does the trick for me. It has to be quiet and cozy and that is we ask for. Luna hotel had great reviews on TripAdviser and we were glad to find nice place for $170 per night. Room was nice, there was no elevator so we had to drag our luggage up the stairs, free workout! I saw the bed and that is how our first day in London ended.

Next day started early. I did not mind getting up at 5 AM. Day was beautiful. Few gorgeous pillow like clouds in the sky, very nice and warm.

Denis had planned where to go and what to see and I just want to walk around, look at the sky and take pictures. Always on the lookout for a great site for wedding pictures. London has such amazing architecture. Beautiful parks. Take St James park. I just love all the birds and squirrels.

First time we visited Buckingham palace we waited for the change of guards and I was just imagining taking pictures of the bride and groom with the guards. Wouldn’t that be such cool wedding photograph? All the guards are young and tall and gorgeous, with that awesome uniform….On a gorgeous stallions. can you just picture a bride next to the guard on that horse?

or perhaps next to this guy.

Unfortunately, they don’t even allow anybody close to the guards. You can not take picture with them or try to make them laugh like they show in all the movies. They are all behind a fence. But changing or guards is a great event to witness in person.

So getting back to the St James park. Since it’s right next to the Buckingham palace we decided to go check it out. I was mesmerized by the lush green grass, beautiful ponds and all the greenery and trees. And of course all the animals running around. They are so trusting, not at all scared of the human. I had some grapes and squirrels had great time munching on grapes, but ducks and other birds could care less and kept chasing us in hopes of getting something better to eat. So I decided, if I find some nuts for the squirrels we’ll get some bread for the birds and will come back to St James park to feed the animals. I could not wait to hand feed those squirrels, they are so adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It did not happened until the very last day of our stay in London. We found some walnuts at the street market got some bread and ran to the park for the last few hours before our flight. I had a blast! First squirrel just stole walnut right from the bag and I guess she went on to tell others that there is plenty more where that one came from. They gathered around me begging for more nuts.

I could not resist. We had a large audience, people just could not pass without taking pictures of me on my knees with my fingers in wild squirrels mouth. And squirrels were eating and posing for pictures

All I could think about is how much I want to be taking pictures of the bride right next to those adorable little rodents! St James park is a dream come true for a wedding pictures location. Perhaps one of these days!

Who could have thought that in Europe they would be interested in bringing an American developer? Europeans are mass immigrating to USA for better life and better jobs….My french teacher, originally from Paris, loves France but she married and American and is not here in LA. Not loving it too much, going back to France every chance she gets, drinks only French wines and gets he bread only in French bakeries and they only speak French at home. But she said that in France they would never be able to have things like they have here in USA. Like flat screen TV and nice large apartment in Marina Del Rey and 2 cars….I am ready to give up both of our cars and large apartment for a flat in Paris. Here it’s work work work. All thought we do find time to dance and ski and travel, but still Denis never turns off his laptop and never lets go of his blackberry, and god forbid he does not hear his cell ring when something goes wrong at work. His manager is all over him yelling and screaming and sending nasty emails.

Well, the search is on….

There are some very attractive job posts in London. Do we want to live in London? Hell no! I hate the rain, I suffered there big time even for the 2 weeks we were on vacation and it did not rain too much. There are some fond memories about vacation in England. The beautiful sky! Love all the clouds. The best chocolate croissants in the world, better than in Paris.

Nice people and everybody speak English!

Of course, fish and chips…super good! And we never ate alone. There was always a line waiting to grab anything off our plates.

How did those birds know to wait until people leave and jump on to the plates devouring whatever was left on them?

Come to think of it, it was not that bad….

I think if opportunity in London would come along we would take it. If it was the only opportunity, bit given a choice I would opt for Paris.

Well….guess what? This recruiter from London is interested in Denis’s resume and that is not all good news. There is this company in Amsterdam interested as well. In fact there are 2 positions for SQL developer in Amsterdam so I have a chance to interview for the second position. I have to put the breaks on, one developer at a time. Denis gets the first opportunity and if his will work out then I will follow.

Amsterdam would be nice, I have an uncle there and my second cousin there as well. Would be somebody to show around at least. My cousin Ilia is so excited we started looking for a job in Europe. Perhaps the most excited of all the people we know. He dream to be in Europe as well. Perhaps some day.

We went exploring Seefeld right away. What a charming place to spend your wintervacation! I love that allot of buidling in the Alps are decorated on the outside with different pictures and paintings. Some are real work of art with religious motives and some have shutters and columns that look like real shatters and columns unless you come really close and see that it’s painted on. Like this adorable house/hotel.

Alps spoiled us with fantastic weather. We’d wake up in the morning to a fresh layer of magnificent, dry and fluffy snow that sparkled diamonds in the bright sunshine. The combination of white snow, blue skies and bright sun was breathtaking and all I wanted to do is take lots and lots of pictures.

We took a taxi from Innsbruck, Austria to Seefeld, Austria. Short ride, only half an hour of magnificent scenic rout up the mountains. We gave our driver the address of the hotel Helga and he got lost. Took a wrong turn and got lost. Lucky for us we had hotels phone number. Driver called and as it turned out hotel was on the same street and if he would have turned right instead of left we would have found it right away.

Our balcony is on the 3 rd floor.

As we were approaching the hotel we saw a men with national Austrian-Tirolean clothing waiving at us, then a lady in the same national outfit appear from behind the door. Turned out to be owners Helga and Franz. They grabbed out luggage and dragged it in to the hotel lobby.

OMG! What a charming place!!! Cozy lobby, warm and inviting. We were checked in in a matter of minutes and escorted to our room. Spacious room, nice, comfy…bathtub(something I can not do without on the winter trips). Balcony…huge terrace overlooking entire village of Seefeld. Ski lifts and bunny slopes. I would wake up every day and take a picture of the view from our terrace. Since weather was different almost every morning, pictures seemed different as well.

Denis made another great hotel choice.

Breakfast and dinner were part of the package and for the price I did not expect anything spectacular. Was I wrong? Big time. Breakfast was quite good. Variety of serials, pates and cold cuts. Fresh artisan breads and rolls. Fruits and yogurts. Eggs (made to order as well as scrambled in the chafing dish)and bacon or sausages. Juices, milk, coffee and tee. Waitress remembered what we drink in the morning and every morning we had my decaf and Denis’s tee on our assigned table. The owners came to each table during breakfast to greet you and to ask if you have any questions or need some info. By the time we got back from breakfast our room was usually cleaned and bed was made up. In 10 days of our stay our bedding was changed at least 5 times, which I don’t see even in 5 stars hotels at times. Bathroom was spotless and carpets were vacuumed. We would get in to our skiing clothes and on to the slopes.

After half a day of skiing all I wanted was a hot bath and hot tee. There is no tee kettle in the room and in order to avoid going downstairs and asking for hot water we opted to buy a small travel kettle for like 20 euros, after all we travel all the time, will come in handy. And hour of rest and off to dinner. Dinner was served downstairs in the dining room. Upon arrival of new guests, owners usually place people speaking the same language at the same table. There was couple of British couples, allot of German speaking guests and 1 Italian couple. So we got our own table which was great since we were not forced to socialize with somebody we might not get along with, i remember those huge community tables at cruises and not always very pleasant experience. Hotel owners did not know we speak Russian as well as English and the other Russian couple in the hotel spoke German so they got sited with this German lady. But ones at breakfast we realised that we both speek the same language and became quite friends. Spend lots of time together and still email ones in a while.

Any way, back to dinner. We were stunned when menu revealed 5 course diner with appetizers, soup, salad bar, entree and desert. In 10 days of our stay menu items did not repeat ones. Everything is prepared fresh from the local ingredients, and local vines are wonderful. Portions are huge, right away I asked them to half mine portion and I barely was able to eat even that much. And I never had any room for desert. Everything was delicious and original, like pumpkin seeds crusted turkey schnitzel,or paper mouse, or apple ginger soup….I am sure I don’t remember even half of it. Then came Christmas. At first traditional Austrian Christmas reading and singing and lighting of the Christmas tree. Then dinner . Let me tell you…..We were at the table for 4 hours. I lost count of courses, food kept coming and coming and finally when all we could not even look at the plates they served huge plated with Christmas cookies. We were just overwhelmed, but were allowed to take it to our rooms and eat later:-)) like a week later….

I often thought that Hotel Helga would be wonderful place to hold a wedding reception. If you want something cozy and sweet, country like setting surrounded by warm hosts and great food. I am sure that authentic Tyrolean experience is waiting for you at Hotel Helga, Tirol Austria.

The warmth of the hotel owners Helga and Franz, the personal touch and attention made our stay very special. We felt at home and can not wait to come back…hopefully very soon and with the rest of our family.
